The Festival Weekend
18 & 19 May 2024

The annual ‘Festival Weekend’

The event is an opportunity to showcase Lady Bay, the people, the place and to bring arts and creatives to the area from painters and sculptors through to designers and makers. The line up changes each year and we love involving new people in what is an exciting weekend.

The ‘festival weekend’ has grown year upon year thanks to the generosity of our residents, from the people who show their work in their home studios, to the people who welcome new creatives into their homes and businesses.

The event runs from 11am to 5pm on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th of May.

When travelling to Lady Bay, head for one of our starting points where you can pay your entry fee and get your map that shows you where everything is.

The map is £5 per adult and free for under 18s. This money helps us print the maps and to deliver the festival weekend.

The venues

Homes

Usually around half of our venues are homes, sometimes in studios in the garden, sometimes in living room, and there is a joy in seeing creatives showing their work in domestic settings, it helps visitors to imagine the work in their own home.

Public/civic spaces

We are fortunate to work with some of Lady Bay’s public spaces including Lady Bay Church at All Hallows, the Church Halls, Lady Bay Primary School and the Scout Hall. These spaces enable us to create exhibitions including:

  • The Main Church space (right) has showcased various exhibitions including Fallow (2023), Evanescent (2022) and Contemplations (2018)

  • The ‘New to Lady Bay’ exhibition in the Back Hall at the church started in 2023 and offered visitors chance to see new creatives from painting, textiles, ceramics and experimental photography.

  • Lady Bay Primary School hosts a variety of art, making and activities for children, young people and families.

  • The Scout Hall features a takeover by undergraduate students from the Graphic Design and Illustration courses, as well as food and drink hosted by the 1st Lady Bay Scouts and the Women’s Institute.

Pubs, cafes and local businesses

We are proud to work with local pubs, cafes and businesses, their support enables us to program a broad weekend with members of the public able to experience art, making and workshops. .
